Making his debut at a new weight class during the Bosckai Tournament in Hungary, Scotland’s Sam Hickey, recently turned 23, will be competing in the Bocskai Memorial Tournament in Hungary, marking his return to boxing since winning the Commonwealth Games Gold.

He will be the first Scot to participate in an international competition in 2023. In the Round of 16, he will face Kyrgyzstan’s Uulu Omurbek Bekzhigit in the 80kg category, after both received a bye in the Round of 32 draw.

Hickey had previously won the Middleweight Final in Birmingham against Australia’s Callum Peters and has since moved up to the Light-Heavyweight division due to the removal of the Middleweight category for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Hickey hopes to become the second Scot in 30 years, after Josh Taylor, to qualify for the Olympics. Despite the weight change, he is confident in his skills and is looking forward to demonstrating his pace and skill set in the new category.
